Create and manage users

Prerequisites

• You have created a PostgreSQL Flex instance.
  Check Create and manage instances for PostgreSQL Flex.

List, create, view and delete a user

List users

STACKIT Portal

1. Open your project in the STACKIT Portal.
2. Navigate to Databases > PostgreSQL Flex.
3. Choose your instance and go to the overview.
4. In the sidebar, select Users.

Now you can see the list of users.

STACKIT CLI

To get a list of all users for a PostgreSQL Flex instance:

Flag	Description
instance-id	Instance ID of the instance you want to query

stackit postgresflex user list --instance-id <instance-id>

You get something like the following output:

Terraform

Terraform is a descriptive method of deploying. Thus you configure the target state of your instance including databases and users. Terraform then decides, whether it needs to create, delete or edit any resources.

Create a user

STACKIT Portal

1. Open your project in the STACKIT Portal.
2. Navigate to Databases > PostgreSQL Flex.
3. Choose your instance and go to the overview.
4. In the sidebar, select Users.
5. In the top bar, click on Create user.
6. Enter a username.
7. In the Role menu, add CreateDB and Login.
8. Click on Create.
9. Copy all information to a safe place. You can’t retrieve it again.

STACKIT CLI

To create a user for a PostgreSQL Flex instance:

username	Username of the new user
role	Permissions of the user (login, createdb)	login	x

stackit postgresflex user create --instance-id <instance-id> --username <username> --role <first-role> --role <second-role> ...

You get the following output:

You can not retrieve the password nor the connection string afterwards. Copy it right now to a safe location.

View a user

STACKIT Portal

2. Navigate to Databases > PostgreSQL Flex.
3. Choose your instance and go to the overview.
4. In the sidebar, select Users.
5. Click on the user entry you want to view.

To get details of a user for a PostgreSQL Flex instance:

Enter the User ID of the user, not its username.

Delete a user

1. Open your project in the STACKIT Portal.
2. Navigate to Databases > PostgreSQL Flex.
3. Choose your instance and go to the overview.
4. In the sidebar, select Users.
5. Click on the three dots on the right side of a user entry.
6. Click on Delete.

To delete a user for a PostgreSQL Flex instance:

stackit postgresflex user delete <user-id> --instance-id <instance-id>

After confirmation, you get the following output:

Enter the User ID of the user, not its username.

Terraform

You cannot delete a user when it owns databases or other objects. In this case, you need to delete the depending objects first.
